Happy Birthday!!

Sadly, while away on my trip, I will miss one of my other bestest friends birthday's!

My lovely friend Brittany will be turning the big 2-5 tomorrow and I will not be here to celebrate with her! That sucks...I love birthdays!! We had a smashingly good time celebrating her birthday in previous years so this is going to be sad to miss!

Here is a picture of the cake I got you! Linds, Steph and I will eat it for you tomorrow...I know it says 8th birthday but that's because I know you were sad about turning 25...I figured maybe 8 was a good year in your life...and I had them put a little Care Bear on it in honor of our favorite holiday of the year!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRITTANY!!!!

Houston Here I Come!

After having a crazy night at work on Wednesday I'm so excited to have 6 nights off....and go to visit one of my bestest friends Lindsay!

Stephanie and I will be flying out today to this lovely place...

Actually I really hate the state of Texas but I do love my Miss Rizzo so it's worth it to go for a few days! It will be nice to have some warm weather and not work!

I'll update when I return!!

One More Before I Go To Sleep!

While searching YouTube for Blake Morgan's video I decided to search for the other song I listened to on the way home...I love it too and even titled my dear blog after it....listen to it and fall in love too!

Makes me want to just stop being so lazy in life and do something super fabulous!

For real this time I'm going to bed!

Don't Know Why I'm Even Still Awake...

Holy crap last night at work sucked the life right out of me. I had this 30y old CF patient that was just a hot freakin mess. He made me so so sad yet so annoyed and frustrated at the same time!

CF is just a terrible disease and this guys life just sucks major balls but for the first time ever I requested not to have my same patient to the day charge nurse on the way out. I've never done that before...normally I can handle the same patients 2, 3, or 4 nights in a row...hell I even had the kid that literally dropped his heart rate to zero when I changed his diaper and I took him on for 4 out of 6 nights! I just can't do it again with this guy though. I truly feel sorry for him and all he's been through. The fact that he still keeps going is just remarkable and I give his mother all the credit in the world for taking care of him day after day when I could barely handle 12 hours with him.

He was constantly banging on his bed to get my attention and talking (around his trach no less) about how scared he was and how he wanted me to knock him out and not let him die and he really just wanted me to stand at his bed all night and hold his hand but I just couldn't.

I feel like a bad nurse on nights where I can't do everything my patient wants but honestly by the time 4am rolled around I began to ignore his siderail banging and wanted to give myself the 4mg of Ativan that the docs finally decided to give to him!

Then on the way home I heard this song and listened to it 4 times and just felt even worse for the guy...not bad enough to call in and say ill take him back tomorrow but bad enough that I will at least help out whatever nurse has him if I can...I wish there was a video for this song cuz I think everyone in the world should hear it sung by Blake Morgan...it's an amazing song! Buy it or download it if you can!!

It's not like I haven't tried and tried
It isn't where I look but what I find
I've been keeping clear
Of stepping on the cracks
I missed just enough to keep me coming back

Oh I'm waiting for better angels
Oh I'm waiting for any lead
And though my case looks fatal
I'm still hoping better angels come to me

Better late, than not at all
Better to make the break, than take the fall
I wouldn't mind hanging on
If I could find out what I'm hanging from

Oh I'm waiting for better angels
Yeah I'm waiting for any lead
And though my case looks fatal
I'm still hoping better angels come to me

Oh I'm waiting for better angels
Yeah I'm waiting for any lead
And though my case looks fatal
I'm still hoping better angels come to me
Still hoping better angels come to me
Still hoping better angels come to me
Still hoping better angels come to me

And with that its time to sleeeeeeeeeep!

I Wish I Were A Vampire...

So I was running errands on Saturday and of course hit up Target...I go in to buy one thing and walk out spending $45! I have a problem...

Regardless I went to buy this jem of a movie...

twlight Pictures, Images and Photos

I think I have watched it at least 4 times since then. I love it...maybe more then Harry Potter. Makes me wish I was a vampire! Immortality, glistening skin, never having to sleep, incredible strength...sounds like a good life to me...although I think I would need to find a different diet. I would miss chicken!

I recommend to everyone they see it and I will lend out my copy if necessary as long as it gets back to me!

I'm Behind...

So it's been over a week since St. Patty's celebration #1 and almost a week since celebration #2...I haven't posted since then and I apologize! I know every was DYING to hear all about my celebrations...

Saturday at Flannagan's was almost 12 full hours of standing, drinking, dancing, eating, rocking out, and just having a jolly good Irish time! There were no tables or chairs but there were porta pots a plenty...and LOTS of green beer! The bands were awesome and the people were even better! I even found a new hairdresser! Here are some pics...

Tuesday was a fun filled day at the local Grandview Pub called Brazenhead. It was a beautiful sunny day and we got to sit outside and listen to good music, watch some Irish dancers, play some drinking games, take a car bomb or two and hang out with fun peeps! Here are a few pics from that shindig as well!

So that's that. St. Patty's day 2009 is all over...it was a fabulous time and I still have the decorations up in my apt. I will be counting down the days till next year and hope to make it out to a couple shuffles instead of spending all my time at one place! Start getting your livers prepared kids! It will be here before we know it!

Twas the Night Before St. Patrick's...

This is it kiddos....tomorrow is the big day! I have my outfit laid out...my sassy new hair cut (which by the way I LOVE...strangers are amazing!), and my liver prepared and ready for this...

I think tomorrow will be a day of frequenting some view Grandview pubs. I know Flannagans will have an awesome band line up but they will also have a cover and parking charge and let me tell you how much I do not appreciate that! I think it will be a fabulous time to hang out at a nice neighborhood pub and sit around and drink greeeeeen beer allllll day!

Come play if you're in the area!!

HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAYYYYYY!!

Quick Note

So I had my first St. Patricks Day celebration this past Saturday and a super cool post will come later with all the fabulous details and some pics...

However on my day 'o celebration I got gutsy and told this girl that I really liked her hair cut. Well her friend chimed in and said she's the one that cut it. I got this girl's phone number and now have an appt in 2 hours to get my hair cut by a complete stranger that I met while I was slightly intoxicated off green beer...

Should I stop and buy a wig first just in case???

Wish me luck kiddos!

St. Patty's Day's Past...

So to gear up for this years St. Pat's day here are a few photos of St. Patrick's Day 2K8 and 2K7...Can't wait to take pics this year during my two days of celebration!! Enjoy the pics!!

Holy Crap...Flashback!!!

So my fab friend Brittany dug up this picture online and posted it on her blog this morning...

Brittany...like she mentioned on her blog...made me do a lot of crazy stuff that I won't get into right now. My two only detentions in high school were all because of her crazy antics...yet I never questioned them...I just went along with everything...

Well we wanted to be doctors in high school and so we were in this program (which looking back was just ridiculous) geared more towards nursing then anything else...regardless they had these competitions where we had to pick a topic and create this presentation on it to present to a bunch of seemingly important peeps. Most groups did eating disorders or art therapy or something to do with old people. Not us man. Brittany watched Oprah so that meant we did these hardcore intense topics like gynecological cancer or female genital mutilation. We won it all both years...the school didn't like our mutilation topic and made us change a bunch of stuff...it was nuts...we should have written to Oprah and we could have now been famous...

Thanks a lot Britt...if you made me do these crazy things you could have at least followed through with Oprah and gotten us some fame out of the deal...

Fabulous Friends

I have to give credit where credit is due and I must say that I would not have started this blog if it weren't for one of my most fabulous friends ever.

Brittany is the mastermind behind this blog beauty...

http://paradepassesby.blogspot.com/

She makes me laugh everyday! Her blog is full of random hilarious pictures, videos or life happenings; inspiring design ideas; updates on her lovely and adorable dog Watson; and her opinions on politics, life and the world in general that just suck me in and cause me to check it about 18 times a day!

I know I don't have many readers on this site but I like to pretend so to all my loyal fans out there you should def go check out the masterpiece that is Before the Parade Passes By!

St. Patty's Oh How I Love Thee!

St. Patricks Day 2K9 is quickly approaching and I could not be happier about it! It is my favorite day of the year and I get to celebrate it twice this year! Who couldn't love St. Patty's??? Let's take a look at why other holidays just cannot compare to this day of Irish fun...

New Years: You have to worry about finding the perfect outfit and if your single you gotta hunt down someone to kiss at midnight otherwise you worry that your entire year is off to a terrible start...

Valentine's Day: Let's face it if you are single this holiday completely sucks. Even if you aren't single it's really nothing fun...plus I hate hearts...

Easter: Easter totally overshadows St. Patty's. A friend and I went out to look for St. Pat's decorations and were just overwhelmed and overloaded with pastels, eggs, and little stuffed bunnies everywhere we went...which was to 4 different stores! Easter is too religious of a holiday for everyone to enjoy and I just want to vomit when I see all those children in pastel dresses and pant suits...blah!

Memorial Day and Independence Day: Now these two holidays are not terrible I will admit...BBQ's are a good time but what if you have no BBQ's to go to...no bars host huge Memorial day bashes do they??? Plus it's really hot on these holidays and we all know how much I hate to sweat!

Halloween: I don't know about you but I always have trouble deciding what I want to be and that my friends stresses me out. I don't ever feel comfortable dressing up as the slutty _________ (insert you own word here...fireman, police officer, janitor, whatever it may be) And you can't show up to a party as a dead bride...I mean we all know how that turned out for Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls...Plus parents have to worry about all the child predators out there poisoning their kids candy...that just ensues stress all over the place! I do love me some candy corn though!

Thanksgiving and Christmas: Now I do love to eat me some turkey and mashed taters and open lovely gifts with family but this is the true "holiday season" and lots of people stress about family coming into town and gifts that need bought and where everyone is going to stay and who's side of the family these holidays will be spent with. Before you know it your bank account is drained and you're 20 pounds heavier then you were back on Labor day and just depressed thinking about who's gonna want to spend New Years with a poor fatty in some crazy outfit your grandma bought you for Christmas that you feel obligated to wear.

And then there is March 17th. A lovely time of the year where the weather usually isn't too hot or too cold...unless of course Ohio decides to have a blizzard. All your friends can join no matter their religious views or family origin (we all know those t-shirts out there advertising to kiss you even if you are German). You can all meet at a friendly neighborhood pub and throw back a couple of green Bud Lights, Mich Ultras, or even a good hearty Guinness if that's what you fancy. You can laugh and take crazy pictures and wear all the green you can find in your closet. If you desire a crazier time there are always the bars that have huge St. Patty's celebrations beginning at 6am and going into the wee hours of the morn where you can down some Irish car bombs or have yourself a Jameson and Diet Coke if you do so desire. If you are looking for more of a family friendly time there is most likely always a little parade or street festival to attend. All in all it is just a magical day where everyone can be happy and friendly and celebrate a holiday truly founded to be a day of feast...for dancing, drinking, and eating! What more could you want!?!??!

9 Days and counting!!! Who's celebrating with me?!?!

Oh the Joys of Being a Nurse!

So I'm a nurse...I went to nursing school and learned all kinds of nursy things...

I've been a nurse now for about a year and I chose to specialize in lil kids...specifically the super sick ones in the ICU...

SOMEHOW having letters after my name means that everyone and their grandma has to ask me questions about every little bump, bruise, ache, pain, burn, inflammation, or stone that they may have...let me tell you peeps something...

I most likely do NOT know the answer!

Let me give you some examples...

My dad's friend called me a couple of months ago...during the day while I was sleeping before work mind you..."Heather I went to the doctor the other day about my kidney stones and they were telling me stuff and I brought the x-rays they took home. I dropped them off with your dad and thought you could look at them next time you're home and tell me if you can see them and what you think..." Holy crap! First of all I didn't go to school to be a radiologist...I can't read x-rays to save a life unless there is a blatantly broken bone...second not many kiddos in the PICU get kidney stones that we have to worry about so I have no idea what to do about them...thirdly what do you want me to say??? Yup you have stones...good luck passing those!!

My friend calls me tonight and we chat for a bit and are about to hang up when she says hey wait a sec I have a question..."So you know those lymph nodes you have in your pelvis...." (I had no idea you had lymph nodes in your pelvis) "Well mine are really inflamed and I'm not sure if its a side effect of this cream or not...I asked the pharmacist when I went to the store and he looked at me like I was crazy" WELLLLL I think your crazy too!! Why do you ask me these things??? To me it probably means you have cancer and better start checking off your bucket list man...call your doctor that prescribed you the cream and that knows more about your pelvis then I ever will! Silly friend! I still heart you no worries...

These are two of the best questions so far...but this is not to discount the many many calls, texts, and other questions I get about people's runny nose, hurt foot, burnt hand, bellyache, and other ailments that come about that I am expected to diagnose. Don't get me wrong I love my fam and friends but people I didn't go to school to diagnose...I follow doctors orders and most of my kids have much bigger issues then a runny nose or belly ache. Next time your kid falls down the basement steps and lands on their head or starts breathing 100 times a minute then give me a call and I may be able to help!

Just my lil rant...I will still expect the crazy questions and to be honest it makes me laugh and I don't mind it...but just be warned...you may be the topic of my next blog post!

Yay Jillian!!

So I finally watched the second part of "After the Final Rose." I'm just not sure how I feel about it. I really liked Jason in the beginning and I understand he had to follow his heart but why dump Mel on national TV??? Sad day for her...I hope he and Molly have a nice little life together...

The best part of the whole show was when they brought this gal back out...

THE NEW BACHELORETTE!!! I could not be happier about ABC's decision to make her the bachelorette! I think she is a fabulous Canadian chic and will make a super fab bachelorette! I will most def be addicted to the Bachelorette for sure! I was sad for Jillian when Jason said peace out to her. I am glad she has a chance to find her one true love in life.

Hahaha as if these people really find their true love..I don't believe for a second that you can fall in love on national tv in that short of a time period...

However I will continue to watch/record every episode...

Sleeeeeeepy

So last night I chose money over sleep....never again will I make that mistake...

First of all I had to leave Britt's place before "After The Final Rose" was over! I didn't even get to see how Molly reacted when Jason told her he wanted her back! Good thing Britt loves the show as much as I do and texted me a play by play of the last 20 minutes that I missed! That rant though will be for tomorrow after I see this crazy second part that's on tonight...

So back to my crazy decision...I decided that since they were "desperately" looking for nurses to come in last night that I would suck it up and take the extra pay (big extra bucks man!) and sacrifice this...

For this...

(This is not an actual patient of mine so no worries...just some random googling!)

Needless to say it turned into a CRAZY busy night where my patient ended up intubated, sedated and paralyzed with is older brother in another room upstairs so the parents were freaking out...NOT worth my lack of sleep!

Good thing I get to meet up with my FABULOUS nursing school peeps for some much needed drinks tonight!

Peace out homies...im off to shower and get my drink on!

Reality Television

Anyone that knows me knows that I am completly and totally obsessed with reality TV. I love it all...Jon and Kate Plus 8, The Bachelor, American Idol, The Biggest Loser, and the list goes on...

Tonight was The Amazing Race...LOVE LOVE LOVE that show! I was thinking tonight about how I think I want to go on it. Who would not want to race around the world, go to fabulous places, and get to do awesome tasks!

I was also thinking about who should be my partner in crime...I thought about having my dad but then I see how the race makes these teams fight like its their job and man my dad and I could give them all a run for their money in bickering...on national TV.

Too late to think more about it now...the 2 hour Brothers and Sisters movie event is starting!! WHO DIES!?!?!

Who wants to be my race around the world partner???

I Have A Blog!

So I read a whole list of blogs everyday...

My friends have blogs...

I have hopes and dreams and a whole lot goin on in my head that I can totally put out for the world to read...

Sooooooooooo

I STARTED A BLOG!!

Maybe no one will read it...maybe people will read it and think its boring and terrible...But hey who cares...lets just see what happens!
